Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a Hardware Engineering Section Manager for our Tactical Systems (TacSys) Product Line in Greenlawn, NY to lead a department of approximately twenty-five RF/Microwave Engineers.

This individual will serve as a first line discipline manager for a group of RF HW engineers as well as the business facing TacSys HW lead in support of the C4ISRS business area. This position also has the responsibility as the Business Area HW Facing Manager for all Tactical Systems HW Engineering (Digital, Microwave, Analog, FPGA, Mechanical, etc) and products.


Serve as a first line discipline manager for a group of RF/Microwave engineers in support of the C4ISRS business area, in particular the Tactical Systems Product Line, developing their skills and promoting career growth.

Perform as Independent Assessor during RF Design Reviews, Peer Reviews and Failure Review Board meetings.

Demonstrates the leadership ability (Engineering Planning & Project Launch, Driving Technical Performance, and Risk & Opportunity Management) to understand and oversee the relevant product technologies of the business area programs.
Understands the HW Engineering Process and acts as the HW Eng process application expert relevant to their specialty providing the appropriate instantiation of process for the programs under your purview.
Perform as Independent Assessor during Design Reviews and Peer Reviews.
Participates in the hiring process and is responsible for developing, mentoring, counseling and evaluation performance of subordinates.

Will be involved in program proposal development relevant to the product roadmaps.

Work and partner with the Product Realization Group Lead, Program Technical Leads, and program Hardware leads on program execution strategies as well as business strategies.

This position also has the responsibility as the Business Area HW Facing Manager for all Tactical Systems HW Engineering (Digital, Microwave, Analog, FPGA, Mechanical, etc) and products.


May suggest expense items for department budget. May provide input to proposal cost estimates. Must track and meet financial targets for your hardware team.

Responsible for personnel management (PDR Assessments, Promotion Planning, knowledge transfer, HR issues, etc.).

Responsible for Career Development Plans of your employees, and providing the tools required for them to perform their tasks.

Responsibilities for the work product of those under your purview, assuring they are applying sound hardware development processes.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Strong RF Engineering leadership skills with the ability to manage a group of 20-25 RF Engineers
  • Ability to manage a large multi discipline business area supporting 3 product lines
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in engineering development and sustainment in support of DoD military electronics equipment
  • An individual at this level should be demonstrating the leadership ability to understand and oversee the relevant product technologies of the business area programs.
  • Strong technical leadership, effective team player, and solid individual contributor with sound technical fundamentals
  • Proven team leader with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter and creative problem solver with proven experience executing in diverse multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in RF module design
  • BS degree in engineering, math, science or physics with 12+ years experience
  • RF/Microwave design experience, RF Leadership experience, knowledge of IFF, Mission Work Stations and EOIR Reconnaissance Systems.
  • Secret Clearance
  • US Citizen

  • MS degree in RF engineering, math, science or physics with 10+ years experience
