Responsibilities:

The Heavy Civil Construction Manager's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure safe work environment across the Heavy Civil Division
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Heavy Civil best construction practices
  • Provide coaching and development to division supervisors through exemplary leadership and utilization of management tools to hold the team accountable
  • Develop and review the scopes of work
  • Provide input and support the budgeting and estimating process
  • Participate in value engineering sessions to suggest modifications for cost reduction
  • Design and implement project plans
  • Support and participate in scheduling
  • Prepare project status reports and ensures plans adhere to contract specifications
  • Work closely with the project team to ensure projects are within schedule and budget
  • Drive construction schedule and ensure subcontractor work scopes and budgets are met
  • Coordinate job-site logistics and maintain a relationship with neighboring occupants
  • Review subcontractor submittals, invoices and payment applications
  • Perform project close-out promptly and professionally
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues through coordination with other departments

Requirements:

  • Experience in Heavy Civil Construction including, Highway, Structural/Bridge, Dirt/Base & Drainage and Pile Driving.
  • Ability to manage/coordinate multiple projects across a 100-mile radius including the supervision of multiple project superintendents and their foremen and crews along with them
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting and project financial management
  • Ability to organize and direct assistant PM's, superintendents and miscellaneous field personnel
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to effectively participate in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and people skills
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong work ethic and a 'can-do' approach to their work
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software
  • 5+ years of Construction-based project management experience, with increasing oversight/responsibility
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Architecture, Construction Management/Engineering or another related field. (Preferred but can be substituted for hands-on experience
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, and production of all phases of Heavy Highway construction
